Venus Cruté

Musically she is known as “Venus…A Lady with A Song” A Lady born to sing…”Jazzing up the ABC’s as she would tell it”…You could always find her singing something. Her style is reminiscent of the unique and sophisticated sounds of Jill Scott, Regina Bell, Billie Holiday, Lena Horne, Cassandra Wilson, Phyllis Hyman, and Nancy Wilson.

Ms Crute’ began singing in the church at a young age and has traveled with several choirs ministering through song. She belonged to a professional gospel choir called Kergyma which became a profound sound in the gospel arena recording two CD’s before the group disbanded. Singing in the gospel realm, Venus has worked with many gospel greats such as Richard Smallwood, Dorothy Norwood, Stefanie Minatee, Dr. Beverly Mondey-Collins, BeBe Winans and Kathy Taylor.

Venus also has a love for dramatic acting. She has been an extra in several films which include the legendary and historical, Malcolm X and an independent film called Liars. Venus has performed in a number of plays, off Broadway and locally. Her favorite performances are “The Billie Holiday Story” and “For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When The Rainbow Is Enuf”.

As a Jazz vocalist Venus “The Lady” along with her band “Gentlemen Friends” have done several concerts to sold out crowds presenting “A Sunday Afternoon of Jazz, Live Music The Way It Used To Be” – A musical production she developed and produced. She has also performed with The Jazz Institute and former American Idol’s Anwar Robinson.

Venus truly has a Voice that commands attention” and can tell any story through her dynamic voice or through a song.

She wishes to continue to blend and use all of the gifts God gave her in any and all arena’s hoping to touch and inspire someone along her journey.
